Belgian electricity at 16 euros per megawatt hour on the ‘spot’ market, the lowest price of the year: who will benefit?

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

The price of electricity continues to fall in Belgium, according to data from the European electricity exchange Epex Spot on Thursday. For delivery this Friday, the average price of electricity for Belgium is 16.77 euros per MWh, on the Epex Spot. It is the lowest of this year, you have to go back to December 31, 2021 to have a price “day ahead” (for the following day) lower (average of 9.68 euros/MWh).

This drop in prices is the result of very windy weather which favored the production of wind energy, while many companies are closed during the holidays and therefore do not consume. These conditions combine with mild temperatures.
