Belgian Retail Chain Bristol Contemplating Exit from Netherlands: Latest Updates and News

2024-04-14 13:14:00

The Belgian shoe and clothing chain Bristol is considering leaving the Netherlands, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Sunday based on several sources.

Bristol is a Belgian family business with 120 stores in Belgium and 80 in the Netherlands. The chain has been making losses for several years.

In 2022, Bristol recorded an operating profit for the first time since 2016, but still recorded a net loss of half a million euros. In November 2023, it also became known that the company was facing a staff shortage and falling numbers in the Netherlands. Some stores have been closed.

Sources close to the matter report to Telegraaf that Bristol is seriously considering leaving the Netherlands. CEO Elise Vanaudenhove, however, does not want to confirm this. “We are working hard to turn things around in the Netherlands,” she says. “It’s not easy, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s impossible. »

At Bristol Belgium, headquartered in Beringen in Limburg, no one was available to comment on this information on Sunday.
