Belgium Rivers Flooding Update: Haute-Meuse Alert Threshold Falling – Latest News and Updates

2024-01-06 09:25:00

Haute-Meuse should fall below the alert threshold during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

In Wallonia, nine rivers also remained in the pre-flood alert phase: the Basse Meuse, the Meuse Moyenne, the Haute Lesse, the Haute Sambre, the Chiers, the Vierre, the Moyenne Semois, the Basse Semois and the Sure. The levels are trending downward in these basins, specifies the administration, which expects a return to normal for these rivers during the weekend.

In Flanders, the level of the Durme remained high on Saturday morning, with the situation still critical in Lokeren. The levels of the Démer and Grande-Nèthe rivers continued to rise slowly, but only the pre-alert thresholds were exceeded. The peak of the flood is expected in the coming days.

Although the flood has begun to recede on most rivers in Belgium, vigilance remains essential, with light precipitation still expected over the weekend.
