A rather special employee helps with the service at the Restaurant du Golf aux Bois. Since the beginning of April, the bosses of the Franc-Montagnard establishment, Fabian and Keunhyung Cho Adam, have had a robot-server named “Bella” in their ranks. With its two large round eyes, its whiskers and its slight smile displayed on a screen, the machine, whose head resembles that of a cat, waits in a corner of the kitchen. The couple bought this machine imported from China for 18,000 francs. The idea came to them after a trip to South Korea, the owner’s country of origin. “We discovered that several restaurants were equipped with these robots. I said to myself that we too were going to hire our robot,” says Fabian Adam, adding that the difficulties encountered in recent years in recruiting staff have facilitated the purchase of “Bella”.
Loaded with dishes, “Bella” moves to the tables thanks to a digital map of the restaurant. Its purpose is to provide support to employees who then serve customers. “We don’t want to replace our staff with a robot. The robot is there to help our staff, to bring plates, ”says the owner of the establishment. The robot is about 1.4 meters tall and weighs around 30 kg. It is made up of four plates. Each level can support 10 kg of goods. The server Valérian Aubry appreciates this support: “He helps us more and more. This summer it will serve us even more since we have the terrace 500 meters from the kitchen, ”he greets.
At the table, opinions are divided. “I find it nice, it changes. We come a bit out of curiosity at the start”, appreciates this client. Another is more mixed: “It’s a bit surprising, especially when there are very pleasant staff”. If on the customer side the comments are not necessarily unanimous, “Bella” can in any case count on the full satisfaction of its bosses. Still not sure that Fabian and Keunhyung Cho Adam award the title of employee of the month to their robot-server. /nmy
