Around the Belmont Stakes, which are run according to German time on Sunday night at around 1 a.m., there are a number of stakes races on the program. One of them was Friday’s Group II Belmont Cold Cup over 3200 meters.

Here, among other things, the ex-German Amazing Grace was in action. The Protectionist daughter, meanwhile trained by Christophe Clement, competed over this extreme distance for the first time. After a race in midfield, Amazing Grace, with a clever ride from Joel Rosario, was able to save every meter in the final arc and take command at the beginning of the home stretch. But then the way became too far for her and she had to settle for fourth place at the finish.

The race was won by the Godolphin galloper Siskany, who was sent to the USA by his English trainer Charlie Appleby. Under William Buick, the 1.8:1 favorite was always in the front group and was able to keep improving in the home straight to ultimately secure victory. Siskany was third to Tünnes in the Bavarian Grand Prix last November.

Even in a group I test, which also trained in Germany in the past, Virginia Joy came to the procedure. In the New York Stakes, the Soldier Hollow daughter started with odds of 21.7:1 and was therefore the longest outsider. In the home straight she had a good moment under Manuel Franco, but she couldn’t quite get through it. In the end, Virginia Joy came across the line in a finish photo with four other horses in the battle for third place. This showed the ex-German trained by Chad Brown in fifth place. The winner of the race was the market segmentation, also prepared by Brown, which prevailed under Jose Ortiz.
