Benidorm Fest: we finally bring good firecracker pop to Eurovision | Television

In 2022 we did not seem to be prepared to present Rigoberta Bandini at Eurovision, but two years later we are ready for a proposal that goes along the same path, Nebulossa and her debt, although inferior in emotion and quality to Ow mom. It is very appreciated that the age gap has been broken in a festival that in recent times seems only young people can attend. The singer of Nebulossa, Mery Bas, is 55 years old: sensational, then, her triumph. The jury wanted one of the two to win (Nebulossa or St. Pedro), but did not dare to decide which one and awarded a tie to remove the obligation of choosing in a rather weak final. And it was the people, more party-oriented and carefree, who opted for the fun of Nebulossa to the detriment of the naive bolero of St. Pedro, Two Strangers (String Quartet). Surely the audience was also enthralled by the tenderness that this duo exudes, especially her, without fuss or outbursts and with such empathetic conversations with her children.

The debt has won because he is already a keep: The one you listen to the most is the sum of those presented and you just have to enter the clubs in Benidorm these days to see how the staff sing it as if the world was going to end. The debt It’s a really fun song, firecracker pop with a very Dinarama eighties beginning, with a structure similar to Rigoberta Bandini’s pieces and (let’s say) daring lyrics. She is not the bomb and Mary Bas has a short voice (we fear that this is not going to improve between now and May), but she represents a current of Spanish pop that has had some candidates in recent times (La Casa Azul, with The Sexual Revolution; Vicco, with nocturnal, or the aforementioned Rigoberta Bandini) and that appeals to plastic pop, heir to the most frivolous current of Spanish music of the eighties. Bring to the festival something so vintage as a bolero it didn’t seem like a revolutionary idea. We haven’t even invented the lying down bolero, which would have had its point. It was something classic from a boy who sings wonderfully and who has declared that he is more interested in José Luis Perales than Bad Bunny or Quevedo. In the absence of other more powerful proposals, if we do it, at least we do it shouting “Bitch” and jumping around.

What to say regarding the others. María Pelae has a courageous and formidable voice, with a warrior and passionate commitment to flamenco close to the strength of Lola Flores. Good for Miss Caffeina, with pedigree indie, but with a self-conscious beat, which offered an entertaining dance pop. Not embarrassing others was already an achievement in the final. Excessive Jorge González, looking for the Chanel effect and staying an abyss away. The big problem with his participation is that Caliente It’s a very mediocre song. Almácor, another favorite, contributed a short voice and a song that comes out of the most recurrent mold of the urban genre. Little thing. Sofía Coll’s piece may be danced in soirees and discos at the time of alcoholic euphoria, but a better option is The debt. And Angy… she’s Angy, we all love her.

So seriously that we have always taken Eurovision, and everything consisted of bringing out our fun side and dancing. This year there will be no shortage of that.
