The New Year’s Eve show debut by Bergdoktor Hans Sigl probably didn’t go quite as planned. In the quota duel, the ARD production had to admit defeat to Andrea Kiewel’s “Welcome 2023” – for the first time in four years!
Offenburg/Berlin – 2022 is history and for the first time in four years the ARD has to leave the New Year’s supremacy to the ZDF. TV Germany preferred to watch the live spectacle Andrea Kiewel (57) at the Brandenburg Gate as the New Year’s Eve show debut by Hans Sigl (53) – not a good start for the mountain doctor.
Bergdoktor Hans Sigl loses New Year’s quota duel: Andrea Kiewel clearly ahead
3.05 million spectators watched Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner at the turn of the year at the Brandenburg Gate. This gave ZDF an average market share of 14.9 percent among the total audience. The ARD “New Year’s Eve show”, on the other hand, falls below the three million mark. Hans Sigl and Francine Jordi have to be content with 2.95 million viewers and a market share of 14.2 percent.
The ZDF triumph is clearer among the 14 to 49 year olds. Here Andrea Kiewel’s “Welcome 2023” achieves a 22.1 percent market share and is thus well ahead of the New Year’s Eve show – formerly “Das Musikantenstadl” – on ARD. mountain doctor Hans Sigl and Francine Jordi only achieve 8.3 percent here.
The Musikantenstadl: From street sweeper to ratings flop
Karl Moik moderated the Musikantenstadl for over 24 years, in 2006 he was replaced by Andy Borg. As a Musikantenstadl presenter, the pop star quickly became the favorite of all pop fans. With his warm personality and his Viennese humor, he became a cult figure in the city.
In 2015, the TV show changed – including a change of moderator and name change. The Musikantenstadl should become younger. Andy Borg had to go and the Musikantenstadl became “The Stadlshow”. But the “anti-aging cure” for the hit show did not have the desired effect. After only two programs, the ORF, ARD and SRF announced that they would no longer produce regular programs due to falling ratings. The hit show now only takes place once a year.

However, the above values should be treated with caution. Because many turn on their TV just before midnight on New Year’s Eve to see the countdown to midnight. That’s why the numbers could have looked quite different over the course of the evening.
That’s why the after-show party of the ARD New Year’s Eve show achieved more, at least among 14 to 49-year-olds, than the actual primetime show with Bergdoktor Hans Sigl. The “New Year’s Eve Showparty”, which consisted of most parts from the New Year’s Eve show of 2021, had an average market share of 13.1 percent.
