Berlin police warn: Acid was probably used in burglaries

The Berlin police warn of a dangerous liquid on apartment or house doors. According to a statement on Tuesday, since mid-December there have been an increasing number of burglaries in the Berlin city area in which a liquid was used to decompose door locks. It appears – depending on the material of the lock – transparent to yellow, green or brownish.

According to initial findings, this is concentrated nitric acid – a highly corrosive substance that irritates the respiratory tract. Anyone who finds such a liquid on the door should inform the police immediately and stay away from the damaged areas. Gloves are also not sufficient protection, it said.

So far, around 30 acts have been registered in which, according to the police, nobody was injured.
