Berlusconi acquitted in the “loud nightlife” corruption case

A Milan court on Wednesday acquitted former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, accused of bribing witnesses to lie about his wild nightlife.

“I can only be very satisfied,” Berlusconi’s lawyer, Federico Ciccone, told reporters.

The Milan prosecutor’s office had requested a six-year prison term for Berlusconi, 86, who was elected in September as a senator, accusing him of tampering with witnesses and giving false testimony in the so-called “Ruby-Terre” trial.

For a billionaire who is slowly making his way out of Italian politics, this ruling is one he has faced in countless trials in recent decades, and has often won.
