Galaxy A04s

Our guide is organized from cheapest to most expensive and if you are looking for an affordable Samsung cell phone, but also don’t want a slow device with several important technologies missing, we recommend the Galaxy A04s as the best entry-level option. It hit the market in February for R$1,300 and now towards the end of the year it costs half as much.

Despite being an entry-level cell phone, we have a good configuration on the Galaxy A04s and this includes a large 6.5-inch screen and 90 Hz LCD panel for greater fluidity than cheap cell phones with simpler 60 Hz screens. It comes equipped with Exynos 850 and 4 GB of RAM that offer a good experience with several apps open at the same time.

The battery lasts a long time and came close to achieving 25 hours of autonomy in moderate use in our tests, while the battery takes just over 2 hours to charge, being above many entry-level cell phones. The A04s lacks an ultra-wide camera, but it impresses with its photographic quality for a cell phone of its current price.

Galaxy A14 5G

For those looking for a cheap cell phone with 5G, Samsung’s best option is currently the Galaxy A14. Keep in mind that there is also a 4G version of this model on sale in Brazil, so be careful when purchasing to avoid choosing the wrong one. The 5G version hit the market in February for R$1,800 and is currently appearing in offers for R$800.

In addition to 5G connectivity, you also have a slightly larger 6.6-inch screen and a 90 Hz LCD panel. Here we have a faster processor that delivers good gains in games. Despite its battery being the same size as the Galaxy A04s, the autonomy is superior and the recharging time is faster.

Here we have the same photographic set as Samsung’s most basic model and just like the A04s, the A14 also does very well in photos. Even at night it is still possible to capture good images and the front camera does not disappoint in selfies. The camcorder has better stabilization to deal with fear, the focus is agile and there is good audio capture.

Galaxy A24

Those who are fans of Samsung usually prefer cell phones with an AMOLED screen and even though the South Korean company has been perfecting its most basic cell phones, it is still common to see entry-level models with an LCD panel. If you want a screen with more vibrant colors and a better viewing angle, then we recommend the Galaxy A24.

It arrived here in April costing R$1,900, which was a disappointing price for a cell phone without 5G. However, now towards the end of 2023 we already find the A24 at around R$1,000, which makes its cost-benefit more interesting. It comes with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ 90 Hz screen, MediaTek Helio G99 chip and 4 GB of RAM for a good experience with any app and game.

What’s most impressive is its battery, which lasted 32 hours in our moderate usage test, ranking among the best from Samsung we’ve tested to date. The recharge time is under 2 hours and its photographic set is similar to that of the A14, but here we have an ultra-wide one for wider photos, making the set more versatile.

Galaxy A34

Climbing the Galaxy line stairs, we arrive at the A34. Here we have already entered Samsung’s intermediary segment and with this we have access to cell phones with more features. The A34 was launched in Brazil in March for R$2,600 and a few months after its debut it can now be found for R$1,000 less.

When you pay extra for the Galaxy A34, you will have an IP67 certified cell phone, which guarantees resistance against water and dust. Its 6.6-inch AMOLED screen has Full HD+ resolution and stands out more than the basic ones because it has a 120 Hz refresh rate for superior fluidity, as well as stereo sound for greater immersion in movies and games.

The A34 comes equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 with up to 8GB of RAM. With this configuration we have a much better performance than the basic models mentioned and its battery is also very productive with more than 26 hours of duration in moderate use. The photographic set features a more advanced sensor that records better photos and a camcorder that records in 4K even with the front camera.

Galaxy M54

Leaving the Galaxy A line a little, we have the M54 on our list as the best battery option. It comes with 6,000 mAh, above Samsung cell phones with 5,000 mAh and easily provides two days of autonomy. The novelty arrived on the national market in April for R$3,000 and can now be found for around R$1,600.

The M54 may not have the water resistance of the A34, but it comes with a more up-to-date front design with a camera hole and thinner edges. It comes equipped with the Exynos 1380 and 8 GB of RAM and was faster than the other Samsung model in our multitasking test, in addition to running any game effortlessly.

In addition to the giant battery as a highlight, the M54 also differentiates itself from Samsung’s intermediaries by coming with a 108 MP camera. The 6.7-inch screen guarantees a great size for movies and games, while the adopted panel has a good level of brightness and great colors with its 120 Hz AMOLED panel. Samsung only owes stereo sound to complement the multimedia experience.

Galaxy A54

Confused between the Galaxy A34 and the M54? Then the A54 could be what you’re looking for. It was launched here in March for R$2,900 and has been appearing in promotions for around R$1,700.

The A54 has the same IP67 certification as the A34 for water resistance, with the most current design of the M54 with a hole for the camera and thin edges. It is a more compact cell phone, which is a differentiator for the segment, but it comes with a 120 Hz AMOLED screen with strong brightness and quality stereo sound.

The hardware is the Exynos 1380, the same one present in the M54. And as expected, both deliver the same performance with popular apps and games. Only the battery yields less because it is smaller due to the more compact body. The photographic set is as good as the other Samsung, but here we have better ultra-wide and macro.

Galaxy S23

Moving up to the advanced segment, but maintaining the proposal of a good compact cell phone, we recommend the Galaxy S23 as a more complete alternative to the A54. The Korean top of the line hit the market in February for R$6,000 and currently appears in promotions for around R$3,500.

The S23 comes with a more sophisticated design with even thinner edges and IP68 certification for more advanced protection. Its screen is just 6.1 inches, which may be small for some, but here we have a more advanced Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with strong brightness and great colors. Stereo sound is more powerful and delivers better sound quality.

In terms of performance, we have a big leap thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, in addition to the 8 GB of RAM. The S23 runs any Android app or game at maximum quality without choking or overheating. Its battery may not be impressive, but for a device of its size, it performs well enough. The recharging time is quite quick compared to the brand’s intermediaries and the cameras are among the best in the segment with a camcorder that records in 8K.

Galaxy Z Flip 5

For those looking to escape the traditional, there are Samsung’s foldable cell phones with the Flip 5 being the most affordable option of the 2023 launches. It hit the market in July for R$8,000 and currently appears in promotions costing almost half as much.

With the Flip 5 you will have a much larger screen without necessarily having to carry a brick in your pocket. The advantage of being foldable also gives greater flexibility for using the cameras, being able to use the rear assembly for selfies guided by the external screen.

The Flip also comes equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 8 GB of RAM and is not inferior to the S23 in performance, while its battery lasts almost the same. Their cameras are simpler because they are old sensors, but still capable of taking good photos and videos.

Galaxy S23 Ultra

Now, if you’re looking for Samsung’s most complete cell phone, then it’s better to forget about foldables and invest in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It arrived on the market together with the S23 in February costing R$9,500. It currently appears in offers close to R$6,000. Is it worth paying all that for it?

It features the S Pen for a more complete experience that improves multitasking, while it comes with a large 6.8-inch screen with strong brightness and great colors. This is another one from Samsung with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but it can be found with up to 12 GB of RAM and was the fastest from the brand that we tested this year.

Its battery is also impressive for delivering 30 hours of moderate use, ranking among Samsung’s best. Charging may not be as fast as some top-of-the-line brands from other brands, but it’s the best on our list. The cameras are the most advanced with a 200 MP sensor and long-range optical zoom for clear photos from any distance.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Compare

Galaxy Z Fold 5

Closing our guide we have the Galaxy Z Fold 5 as Samsung’s most expensive option. It hit the market in July costing R$13,800. Its hefty price is due to the fact that it is a more complete foldable than the Flip and is a replacement for compact tablets.

Despite not coming with the S Pen, it also supports Samsung’s pen and has the same features as the S23 Ultra. The Fold 5 has a large 7.6-inch screen when opened, while its 6.2-inch external screen copes well with any task. The stereo sound delivers good quality and high power. While the battery yields less than the S23 Ultra, but it is above the Flip in autonomy.

What could be better about the Fold is the photography suite. It’s far from bad, but for a cell phone that costs considerably more, it could come with the same cameras as the S23 Ultra or at least the main sensor. Additionally, the Fold has a camera hidden under the screen that is almost useless for photos, but makes up for it with the flexibility of using the rear assembly for selfies.
