Our colleagues from SudInfo relay a warning from the Haut-Pays police, in Hainaut. In a press release, it explains the ploy: “The modus operandi is always the same: claiming that they do not have a bank card, the thugs ask motorists who have come to refuel to fill a jerry can for a small amount (often €5) and reimburse them in cash. But when it comes time to pay, they flee. Following several testimonies, the police have already intervened and suspects have been identified. However, a call for vigilance is launched because these individuals act in small bands and their hunting grounds can extend to other municipalities.”
