Biathlete Julian Eberhard has announced the end of his active career. With the 35-year-old from Salzburg, one of the most successful biathletes in the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) in recent years is retiring from the World Cup stage. The two-time World Championships medalist has celebrated four individual World Cup victories in his career and made it onto the World Cup podium a total of 13 times.

His greatest success was the bronze medal in the mass start at the 2019 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund. The emotional highlight of a long career was probably bronze with the ÖSV relay at the 2017 home World Cup in Hochfilzen. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, the strong athlete from Saalfelden finished fourth in the individual and relay competitions. The 1.96 meter tall model athlete missed the last Winter Games in Beijing due to a serious fall at the start of the season in Östersund.

“After long and careful consideration, I have decided to end my active career. I’ve been in the World Cup since 2006 and have lived for the sport of biathlon every day since then. Now I’m looking forward to breaking new ground, developing professionally and having more time for my family,” says Eberhard.

“Home World Cup was formative”

“In addition to my first World Cup victory, the home World Championships in Hochfilzen with a dream setting and a much-celebrated relay medal were particularly formative for me. In order to be able to successfully shape a sporting career, it takes a lot of people, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my companions,” said the 35-year-old.
