Biden: Netanyahu’s policy is wrong and I call on Israel to cease fire

United States – US President Joe Biden, in an interview broadcast yesterday, Tuesday, considered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy in the Gaza Strip “wrong,” and called on Israel to cease fire.

Biden told the American Spanish-language network “Univision” when asked about Netanyahu’s handling of the war, “I think what he is doing is wrong.” “I don’t agree with his approach.”

Biden reiterated during the interview that the killing of 7 aid workers last week in an Israeli raid in Gaza working for World Central Kitchen, which is based in the United States, was “terrible.”

He added that he therefore calls only on the Israelis for a ceasefire, and for the next six or eight weeks to allow full access to all food and medicines into Gaza.

Biden intensified his pressure on Israel to allow more aid to enter Gaza, saying that he spoke with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt and they are “ready to bring this food in,” stressing that “there is no excuse for not providing the medical and food needs of the people of Gaza, and this must be done now.”

Biden’s comments are among his strongest criticism of Netanyahu so far, amid growing tension over the high number of civilian deaths due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the difficult conditions inside the Strip.

His statements regarding the ceasefire also represent a shift from his previous statements in which he said that the burden falls on the Palestinian faction movement to agree to a truce and an agreement to release detainees.

The major shift in Biden’s policy towards Israel – which was revealed in the interview – has appeared since the killing of aid workers from the World Central Kitchen in Gaza.

On the other hand, congratulating Muslims on Eid al-Fitr, Biden said that he sympathizes with those suffering from conflict, hunger, and displacement, including those in places like Gaza and Sudan, adding that “it is time to recommit to working to build peace and defend the dignity of all.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which left more than 100,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly, despite the issuance of a Security Council resolution for an immediate ceasefire, and also despite its appearance. For the first time before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide.
