Big change in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s social and cultural reforms are evident in the Christmas celebrations, both natives and foreigners of the country. Gone are the days of celebrating Christmas in secret. This year’s Christmas celebrations in the country are a sign of religious tolerance. In the context of this, the English daily Arab News also published a special Christmas edition (Expats celebrate Christmas: Big change in Saudi Arabia).

In Saudi Arabia, Christmas celebrations were not visible in public. The celebration was only held in compounds and closed flats where people from European countries lived. There was also a ban on the import of decorative items, including Christmas trees. But with the adoption of the approach of promoting religious tolerance and cultural diversity, the people of the country have turned Christmas into a celebration. Christmas decorations and various sweets including cakes are available in the market.

The Saudi English newspaper Arab News shared the Christmas celebrations in Saudi with its readers with great importance. A special Christmas edition was also published for the first time in the newspaper’s 47-year history. Arab News also assesses that this year’s Christmas season has never happened before in the country’s history.

The front page also featured an article by Editor-in-Chief Faisal J Abbas, wishing him a Merry Christmas. The Vision 2030 plan being implemented in the country is putting forward broad perspectives. Therefore, the Christmas season provides an opportunity to enjoy the festive season more.
