Big crash at the Tour of Flanders: Polish Filip Maciejuk disqualified, Wellens forced to retire

Huge fall in the peloton 140km from the finish of the Tour of Flanders. As the riders prepared to take on Old Kwaremont for the first time, Pole Filip Maciejuk wanted to go up the peloton on the left of the road. A rather risky maneuver for the rider from the Bahrain – Victorious team who rolled in a puddle, skidded and made a huge ‘strike’ in the peloton.

The fall, which happened at the head of the peloton, sent many runners to the ground. Among them, the French Julian Alaphilippe, leader of the Soudal – Quick-Step team, the Belgian Tim Wellensluxury lieutenant of Tadej Pogacar and other big chunks like Peter Sagan or Jasper Stuven.

If most of the riders were able to start again, Tim Wellens was forced to retire. Ben Turner and Oier Lazkano suffered the same fate.
