A large fire broke out earlier on Friday afternoon (09/08) in a forest area in the local community of Dafnoudi of the Municipality of Emm.Pappa, specifically between the communities of Dafnoudi and Metallo in Serres.
The fire department was immediately mobilized for the extinguishing operation. 34 firefighters rushed to the scene with two groups of forest commando hikers from the Special Forestry Operations Unit. Aerial means are also operating at the site, specifically 5 aircraft and 2 helicopters.
The fire is burning in a difficult place and it is likely that it was started by lightning. Lifesavers for its control were the heavy rain that broke out during the extinguishing operation.
