Officially: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul
It turns out that the legendary boxer will soon return to the ring. Tyson officially announced that he would fight 27-year-old Jake Paul at a gala in Arlington, Texas. The event will take place on July 20 and will be broadcast on Netflix. It is currently unknown whether it will be an exhibition or professional fight. “Mike Tyson is one of the greatest icons in boxing history, and Jake Paul is one of the greatest breakthroughs in boxing history,” Netflix vice president of sports Gabe Spitzer said in a statement, as quoted by ESPN.
Jake Paul is a YouTuber who has been competing in boxing for several years. He turned professional four years ago and defeated, among others, Andre August and Ryan Bourland. In total, he fought 17 fights, nine of which ended in victory. “Paul has developed significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be great to see what a kid’s will and ambition can do with experience,” Tyson, 57, said.
This won’t be the first time Paul and Tyson have appeared on a boxing card together. Paul fought in the co-main of the pay-per-view tournament, during which Tyson fought an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
Mike Tyson had his last professional fight in 2005. Then he lost to Kevin Mcbrid. Paul, in turn, entered the ring for the last time at the beginning of February, when he faced the previously mentioned Bourland.
