New York: Billionaire and ‘SpaceX’ founder Elon Musk’s Twitter post has been taken up by millions of people who have reacted strongly against the treatment of children for gender reassignment. ‘Parents and teachers who sterilize their children before they reach adulthood should be sent to prison for life’ is making waves on social media.
The tweet of Musk, who is also the owner of Twitter, was in a situation where the sex change surgeries and related treatments of adults are common, but the sex change treatments of minors are encouraged and the moves to give it legality are evident. Within a few days, the said tweet received more than six and a half lakh likes (6,62600) and over one lakh shares – 1,05500 to be exact!
Appreciating Musk’s tweet, prominent evangelist and president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Franklin Graham’s tweet was also noteworthy. “Musk has spoken out against strange and dangerous transgender treatments performed on minors. I admire him for being so fearless and open.’
It is also noteworthy that Graham’s note helped to address the issue of gender reassignment in children more broadly. ‘It is shameful for any adult to subject children to such treatments. Young people face lifelong consequences as a result of surgeries and drugs that debilitate the body, mind and spirit.’ He noted.
