Bilt Rewards Card Issues: Rent & Mortgage Payments Disrupted After Wells Fargo Split

by

Customers of Bilt Rewards are reporting significant disruptions to rent and mortgage payments following the complete of the company’s banking partnership with Wells Fargo, according to reports surfacing this week.

The program, which allows users to earn rewards points on rent payments, has faced increasing scrutiny as the transition to a new card issuer unfolds. While Bilt Rewards has begun issuing new credit cards after the Wells Fargo partnership ended, many customers are finding their scheduled payments are not processing correctly. Forbes reported on March 10, 2026, that users are expressing frustration over the lack of accountability and resolution to the payment issues.

The shift began as a planned transition. As outlined in a support article published by Bilt Rewards, the original Wells Fargo-issued Bilt Mastercard is being phased out, with cardholders needing to choose how to proceed. Kiplinger reported that the transition is a “pretty big deal” for those who have integrated Bilt Rewards into their financial strategies.

The disruption specifically impacts those utilizing BiltProtect, a service allowing rent payments through the Bilt platform. According to Bilt Rewards support documentation, the last day to make a rent payment through BiltProtect with the Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard was February 3, 2026. While Bilt is offering a new option for rent and mortgage payments through a new Bilt Card starting February 7, 2026, the rollout has been problematic for many.

Bilt Rewards initially gained traction by offering a unique way for renters to build credit and earn rewards, a demographic often underserved by traditional credit card programs. The program allows users to earn transferable points on rent and, increasingly, mortgage payments, with the Bilt Mastercard offering no annual fee. However, the recent issues raise questions about the stability of the program during this period of change.

The Points Guy reported in July 2025 that the Bilt Mastercard requires five purchases each statement period to earn points. The program’s appeal lies in its ability to turn a typically non-rewardable expense – rent – into an opportunity to accumulate points. However, the current payment processing issues negate that benefit for affected users.

As of Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Bilt Rewards has not issued a comprehensive public statement addressing the widespread payment failures. Customers continue to report difficulties contacting customer support and resolving the issues, leaving many uncertain about the status of their payments and rewards.
