After months of stalemate between industry, farmers and the Green ruling party, the door is now open for biogas production from waste. By 2030, the capacities are to be expanded to 7.7 million terawatt hours (TWh) of biogenic gas. The Energy Institute of the University of Linz has calculated the potential at ten TWh, in the broadest sense with up to 20 TWh. 7.7 TWh would replace almost eight percent of fossil natural gas imports.
