Bitcoin rose above $45,000 on Tuesday for the first time since April 2022. The world’s largest and best-known cryptocurrency began 2024 with a bang, helped by optimism over the possible approval of Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds.

Bitcoin hit a 21-month high of $45,488. Last year, the cryptocurrency had already risen by 154 percent, achieving its strongest performance since 2020. However, Bitcoin is still a long way from the record high of $69,000 that the cryptocurrency reached in November 2021. Ether, the coin pegged to the Ethereum blockchain network, was 1 percent higher at $2,376 on Tuesday.
