Renée Féraud-Colliard went skiing among the stars
She was, in 1956 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the first skier from Geneva to be Olympic champion at the Winter Olympics. At 89, she passed away peacefully.
It was another era, when the skis were made of wood and the poles were “the trunks of small fir trees” which did not fold up. Renée Féraud-Colliard’s hands still had scars, 58 years later, when we met her at her home in Crans-Montana, just before the Sochi Olympics. In 2014, she was still the only Genevan to have won gold at the Winter Games. It was in Cortina d’Ampezzo, in 1956.
