“Black Panther” director Coogler considered a bank robber

Message when withdrawing money caused a stir

However, he and the bank management had come to an agreement and solved the case to his satisfaction. According to the police report, Coogler attempted to withdraw $12,000 from his bank account at a bank teller in January. With a handwritten note, he asked the bank clerk to be discreet and count the bills inconspicuously.

The cashier misinterpreted this as an attempted robbery when an alarm message appeared because of the amount involved. Police officers took Coogler and two companions who were waiting in a car outside the building into custody. After Coogler was able to identify himself, they were released.

A spokesman for the bank told Variety that they “deeply” regret the incident. They would have apologized to Coogler for that. The director held on to filming the film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in Atlanta.
