Black Wings fixed goalie team for next season

The Steinbach Black Wings and Thomas Höneckl – it just fits together. The Salzburg native has been guarding the Linz goal since the summer of 2021, making 53 appearances and four shutouts. The 34-year-old has also found his way back into the national team and is currently in the first World Cup preparation camp.

Together with Rasmus Tirronen, who still has a valid contract until the end of the coming season, Höneckl will also form the goalkeeper duo for the Black Wings in the 2024/25 season. The “Höne” working paper was extended by one year.

“We are very lucky that we have such an experienced goalkeeper duo in Linz, whom we can now fully trust for the third season. Thomas Höneckl has proven many times this year that, despite his long and successful career, he doesn’t just want to sit on the bench. He absolutely deserves his comeback to the national team. At the same time, he is a great role model for our young goalies and gives them valuable help in their development so that they can move up in the foreseeable future,” says goalie coach Jürgen Penker.
