Black Wings: Victory against Iserlohn in the friendly

Less than 48 hours after the successful home opener, the Steinbach Black Wings, with Brian Lebler returning, got back on the bus on Saturday afternoon. In Kitzbühel, the Stahlstadt team started against the Iserlohn Roosters with the same level of motivation as on Thursday, but received a lot of speed from the start from North Rhine-Westphalia. It was Shawn St-Amant who had his first shot in the fourth minute with some space on the right, but fired it wide. Both teams quickly crossed the neutral zone, but put pressure on the opposing attackers in their own third and thus kept the dangerous areas in front of the goal closed.

Until the 8th minute, when the Upper Austrians were inattentive for a moment and promptly came under pressure. After a nice cross pass through the third, Michtell Eliot shot free on the right hash marks. Tironen shortened the angle well and also won the resulting rebound. The Linz goalkeeper was also asked two minutes later when he unpacked his catch against Sebök in the middle and then saved against Barinka. The Roosters took over the game, but the Steinbach Black Wings struck exactly in an opponent’s urge phase.

Logan Roe brought the disc on target from the blue line in the 15th minute, Graham Knott deflected and defeated Andreas Jenike to make it 1-0 for the Stahlstadt team. The goal gave Linzer momentum, because just before the break MacKenzie and Romig had the opportunity to follow up, but their shots were not successful. With the narrow lead, Brian Lebler and his team returned to the dressing room for the first time.

Coming out of this, the Linzers put the pressure on and created three dangerous chances in the first change. After a pawn trick by Sean Collins and a hidden long-range shot by MacKenzie, it was Graham Knott who missed the huge chance to make it 2-0. The striker received the pass on the right, but failed to hit the target properly and missed the empty goal by a wide margin. In the 25th minute, Steinbach Black Wings became dangerous in the first power play of the evening and hit successfully. Niklas Bretschneider slowed down well on the right, found the gap between Jenike’s legs and made it 2-0 for the people of Stahlstadt. Two minutes later, Shawn St-Amant had the next good opportunity and took the Onetimer down the left, which scraped the bar but bounced back into play from there.

There was little from the representative from the DEL afterwards, even in a majority game and it was again the people of Linz who were able to capitalize on it. Coming from the penalty box, Matt MacKenzie received a wonderful pass from Graham Knott on the right and pocketed it to make it 3-0 for the Steinbach Black Wings (36th minute). Exactly one minute before the second half-time siren, the Roosters got back in the game. In a tumult in front of the goal, Florian Elias came to the target on the left post and reduced the deficit to 1:3 from Iserlohn’s point of view.

With the two-goal lead for Linz, it went into the last 20 minutes. The men of head coach Philipp Lukas started this with another power play. Shawn St-Amant put himself in a good position in the high slot, but couldn’t get past Jenike’s blocker with his dangerous wrist shot. The game got rougher with some hard-fought battles, from which the Upper Austrians mostly came out with the better end. 10 minutes before the end, the Roosters made the game exciting again.

Against the course of the game, Sven Ziegler unexpectedly got a shot in the middle and put it precisely behind Tirronen to make it 2:3 (50th minute). Iserlohn gained self-confidence and then became a fire hazard twice. Rasmus Tirronen had to intervene on the right flank, but secured the lead on each follow-up. In the 55th minute, Brodi Stuart and his teammates worked up a sweat and only managed to break out of their own third with a lot of effort.
