The US State Department said Friday that Secretary Anthony Blinken will travel to Cambodia to attend a meeting of ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) next week, where he will address the “Covid-19 pandemic”, climate change, Myanmar and the war in Ukraine. .

After the Aug. 3-5 meetings in Phnom Penh, Blinken will travel to the Philippine capital, Manila, and meet with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos and Secretary of State, Enrique Manalo, to discuss efforts to strengthen the US-Philippines alliance, the ministry statement said.

South Africa will be the next stop on the US Secretary of State’s trip, when he visits it from the seventh to the ninth of August, followed by two visits to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.

“The Minister will focus on the role that the Government of Rwanda can play in reducing the ongoing tension and violence in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo,” the statement said.
