At the start of the week, Blizzard released a huge update for Diablo IV, which notably radically reduced the power of the different classes, to the chagrin of players who were quick to show their dissatisfaction. Faced with the situation, the studio addressed the community.

“We have no intention of making such an update again”

During a livestream broadcast yesterday, Joe Piepiora, Joe Shely and Adam Fletcher spoke about the recent Diablo IV update.

They first claim that they hear feedback from players, and admit that they failed to do the right thing:

Not the best gaming experience for gamers. We do not intend to make such an update again. We hear you very well.

[…]

We know that reducing player power is never a good experience. Sometimes we fail to do the right thing.

A first update was released yesterday to reduce the difficulty of nightmare dungeons, while a more substantial update will be available at the end of the month.

Towards big changes in the next update

This 1.1 update will notably improve the power of the wizard and barbarian classes, which were the most affected by the recent nerf. The patch will also increase enemy density in nightmarish dungeons and in Helltide, two of the core endgame activities.

The XP gain between levels 50 and 100 will also be adjusted, in order to address complaints from players who find it too tedious to level up in this progression bracket. Joe Shely asserts that teams are not trying to “slow down the game”, and that level 100 should “be seen as an accomplishment and not as work”.

Adam Fletcher confirms for his part that in the future, the studio will reveal the full patch note at least a week before the release of an update. Blizzard’s next livestream is scheduled for Friday, July 28, and we should hear a bit more about Patch 1.1 fixes in the coming days.

We hope that players will soon be able to find a satisfactory gaming experience and enjoy the Season of Malevolence in the best conditions. Below is the full livestream.
