V4-Bauernproteste

On Thursday, the agricultural chambers of the Visegrád states (V4), Latvia and Lithuania protested against the EU’s agricultural policy with road blockades.

The protests at Czech border crossings with Slovakia, Germany and Poland were directed against the EU’s so-called “Green Deal”, which poses impossible challenges for farmers and is driving them to ruin, as well as against duty-free agricultural imports from Ukraine and South America. Hungarian farmer representatives also joined the road blockades in Hodonín on the Czech-Slovak border.

According to the Czech Chamber of Agriculture, 5-6,000 farmers with 3,000 tractors and other agricultural machinery took part in the protests, which took place at the border crossings as well as in the centers of various cities. The V4 chambers received expressions of solidarity from agricultural associations from Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria.

Hungarian farmers also expressed their dissatisfaction with EU agricultural policy.
