Blocking third-party Twitter clients (Tweetbot, Twitterrific…) would be intentional

Even if Twitter remains a fairly modest network in France compared to Facebook, Instagram or even TikTok, it is widely used by the press, marketing and of course, a fringe of individuals.

So far, Twitter relied on both the site and the official client, but also on third-party applications (Tweetbot, Twitterrific…), often more advanced. This prevented Twitter from developing its own applications, contenting itself with providing an API in which anyone could come and type in it.

Let us nevertheless specify that access to the API, initially free, has been severely restricted in recent years, de facto reducing the market for alternative customers.

An intentional shutdown of third-party customers?

Twitter has not yet communicated on cutting off access to the API for third-party customers for a few days. Recall that if you use these programs, they are simply broken, without the possibility of using them normally.

According to TheInformation, it would in fact be an intentional and thoughtful decision and not a bug as mentioned at the start. But this information is perplexing, because contracts obviously bind third-party companies to Twitter, which cannot cut access without notice – unless we do not know all the details of these famous agreements.

While waiting for the official response, many still assume that Elon Musk wants to act in the same way as Apple: as soon as Cupertino buys a company, it internalizes its technology and cuts access to third parties or platforms external to iOS -History of recovering all possible profits or promoting its platform. This has been the case on many occasions, sometimes leaving customers waiting for a few months.

Obviously, the press is crying foul, because Musk is used to these unpleasant little pirouettes in terms of communication. We hope that even if the decision to remove third-party customers is effective, this dear Elon will give his allies time to turn around on the business plan : there are obviously many jobs at stake and it would even be rather commendable if Musk outright bought some customers, like Tweetbot, which offered really practical functions.

For the record, there are a number of third-party apps around Tesla, but the manufacturer has never officially opened its library… which can be cut at any time.
