Bloodbound – The Tales of Nosferatu – Two Decades of Blood
Origin: Sweden
Release: 19.04.2024
Label: AFM Records
Duration: 01:00:06
Genre: Heavy Metal / Power Metal

Bloodbound have been roaming the power metal scene for 20 years, exploiting every cliché they can find. This is not meant as criticism, because hand on heart: What would power metal be without stories about dragons, demons, vampires and – of course – references to the Lord of the Rings.

The Swedes are bringing something along for the big birthday The Tales of Nosferatu – Two Decades of Blood is now releasing a live album, recorded during a gig at the Masters of Rock Festival in the Czech Republic. The whole thing is also available on BluRay and there is also a comic included that tells the story of the band mascot Nossen processed.

So the same question arises as with any live album: Is it worth buying? “My darling!” or “Flee You fools!”? There’s only one way to find out: strap on your sword, put on your devil horns, turn on your music system and immerse yourself in the fantasy and cliché-laden world of Bloodbound.

Dragons and catchy tunes

Anyone who is too trve for power metal with stereotypical content will definitely have fled to Helvete to get their panda make-up done by the introductory words. But anyone who has no problem with melodic and classic song structures, including sing-along passages and lots of guitar leads, will have become a fan of the band after the 13 songs on the album.

The Tales of Nosferatu – Two Decades of Blood can also be viewed as a kind of best-of from Sweden. If you don’t know the band yet: imagine that Hammer fall, Manowar, Saturday and Powerwolf share custody of a child who is into live-action role-playing (LARP). Et voila, that’s what it sounds like Bloodbound.

Metal party to go

We encounter the first catchy tunes in the form of Tales from the North and Slayer of Kings very early in the setlist. Of course, the next thing the musicians have to emphasize is that they are on the road in the name of metal. What follows are fights with dragons, drinking parties with gods and a courtesy visit to the Balrog Moria.

Performed live, it’s all really a lot of fun and you can immediately hear the combo’s playing mood. Here people fight, bang, jump and drink for Power Metal, in short: the interested listener can expect an atmospheric party whose individual snippets of melody will be remembered for weeks.

After the final Nosferatu The only thing left to do is press the play button again. But be careful: the writer of these lines has done this once too often. As a result, he has grown a pair of spandex pants on his own and his wife looks at him askance because he is looking for dragons in his backyard and using garden shears as a substitute for a real sword. But it was really worth it – In the Name of Metal!

Conclusion
The Tales of Nosferatu – Two Decades of Blood makes you want to look forward to the next two to three decades in the history of Bloodbound. The band performs their best and most memorable songs with audible joy in playing, giving not only die-hard fans good reasons to give them a listen. Tip: After two to three runs it gets even better. Therefore there is 8,5 / 10 Dragons stars.
