Bloomberg: EU has developed a plan to expand assistance to Ukraine with ammunition

The European Union has developed a plan to help Ukraine with ammunition and intends to present it for discussion next week. This document came into the possession of the agency Bloomberg.

The plan, drawn up by the European Commission and the European Defense Agency (EDA), proposes to allocate €1 billion as part of an “additional assistance package” specifically for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, primarily 155 mm artillery shells. According to the document, member states that will transfer shells from their stocks will receive compensation of up to 90% of the costs in order to be able to replenish their own stocks of weapons. The plan also invites those EU countries that do not want to participate in the arms assistance program to Ukraine to make a “voluntary financial contribution”.

As stated in the document, Ukraine’s requests for the supply of ammunition will be considered under the accelerated procedure, which will be launched in the near future for a period of seven years. In addition, the plan provides for a number of measures to increase the production of ammunition in the long term and solve the problems of Member States in replenishing their military reserves. Among these measures are the reorganization of supply chains and production lines, the expansion of cooperation between different companies to ensure the timely delivery of products and raw materials, the acceleration of procedures for obtaining the necessary permits, etc.
