In the latest installment of the Spider-Man franchise titled “Spider-Man: A New Day,” Marvel and Sony have officially partnered with BMW to supply official vehicles for the web-slinging hero, replacing previous automotive sponsors Audi and Hyundai, according to recent film production updates.
The Evolution of Marvel’s Cinematic Fleet From Audi to BMW
Automotive partnerships have long been a fixture of the modern superhero blockbuster. In 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” it was Audi supplying the high-end hardware. The manufacturer returned for the 2019 sequel, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” outfitting the production with models like the A7, A8, TTS Roadster, Q8, and the all-electric e-tron line. That baton shifted ahead of the 2021 release “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and the 2023 animated feature “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” where Hyundai took over as the primary automotive supplier. During the Hyundai era, vehicles like the Tucson SUV and the battery-electric Ioniq models took center stage.
Now, as production moves toward the 2026 release cycle, the German automaker BMW steps into the official vehicle supplier role.
Engineering the Hero’s Ride: Inside the iX3 and Série 5 Integration
For the 2026 film appearance, BMW’s product placement heavily features the all-electric iX3 SUV and the 550e xDrive sedan.
The iX3 embraces BMW’s controversial new design language, widely known as the Neue Klasse architecture. In stark contrast, the 550e xDrive sedan clings to the brand’s prior styling ethos, featuring the oversized kidney grilles.
Color-Shifting Paint Tech Makes Its Cinematic Debut
Beyond standard production models, BMW utilized the Spider-Man partnership to showcase experimental technology on the silver screen: the iX3 Flow Edition prototype. Originally unveiled in China in April of that year, this prototype features a specialized front hood utilizing E Ink technology capable of transforming body panels into dynamic, controllable displays.
By applying electrophoretic technology akin to what powers modern e-reader screens, the iX3 Flow Edition allows users to shift the vehicle’s exterior animations and visual patterns on command. BMW engineering teams believe that advancing this E Ink application will eventually pave the way for much larger exterior displays, fundamentally altering how vehicles communicate with their environments and expanding personalization options for future drivers.
