BMW’s Massive Investment in Mini Factories in England Sets the Stage for Future Electric Car Production

BMW has announced a massive investment in Mini factories in England. This will make it possible to plan the production of the brand’s future electric cars in the United Kingdom.

From 2026, future electric Minis will leave the manufacturer’s factory in Oxford, in the south of England. By 2030, the factory will only produce ‘zero-emission’ Minis for the entire world market.

BMW will invest 600 million pounds, or 750 million euros, in this project. The electric Mini Cooper E and Aceman will first be produced in China, before being produced on European soil.

Milan Nedeljkovic, BMW’s production director, gave details on this future organization. The objective will be to manufacture these future models with batteries from Europe. We do not know, however, which country these will come from.

BMW has confirmed that in addition to the Oxford factory, the Swindon factory will also be eligible for a renovation. The fate of the third factory, which is at Hams Hall near Birmingham, is not yet sealed.

The British Minister for British Business, Kemi Badenoch, was also present at this conference. “We not only want car manufacturing to be done in the UK, but to be the best in the world, and this is part of that story”, declared the minister. However, he did not confirm the 75 million pounds in subsidies that BMW would have received for this safeguard plan.
