British No. 1 Katie Boult was defeated by Magda Linette 2-6 6-0 7-5 in the first round of the Cincinnati Open, losing nine games in a row.
Bolt broke Linette twice in the opening set to take the lead, but the world number 43 Pole responded in impressive fashion.
Linette dominated the second set – dropping just eight points – defeating her British opponent in just 25 minutes.
The Pole then took an early lead in the third set and broke serve for the fourth time in a row to take a 3-0 lead.
Bolt, ranked 30th in the world, fought back to level the score at 4-4 and saved two match points at 5-4.
But she failed to save a third match point in her next service game, and Linette earned a spot in the second round, where she will face either Wang Xinyu or Lyudmila Samsonova .
