He allegedly sent more than 150 bomb threats to the United States after underage girls refused to send him explicit photos.
Eddie Manuel Nunez Santos, 33, was arrested on September 26 in Lima, Peru. Between September 15 and 21, the man of Peruvian origin allegedly sent false bomb threats to schools, synagogues, airports and hospitals, forcing the evacuation of thousands of students and the confinement of hospitals as well as the delay of numerous flights. The establishments targeted would be located in five states: New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Arizona and Alaska.
“As alleged, the defendant’s relentless campaign of false bomb threats prompted an immediate mobilization of federal and state authorities, diverting crucial law enforcement and public safety resources , and has sowed fear in hundreds of communities across this country,” said Southern District of New York Attorney Damian Williams.
According to the investigation carried out by the police, Eddie Manuel Nunez Santos would have launched these alerts as retaliation after teenage girls refused to send him naked photos. The man then posed as a 15-year-old boy named “Lucas”.
“Not only did Santos allegedly email hundreds of false bomb threats terrorizing schools, hospitals and places of worship, but he also pervertedly attempted to sextort innocent teenage girls. His actions wasted limited law enforcement resources, put first responders in needless danger, and victimized children,” said James Smith, Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
