Boosting Job Integration in Shortage Sectors: Revealing Data on Forem Training and Labor Market Success

2023-09-02 09:16:00

According to the latest figures available (2022), one out of three job seekers trained by Forem and its partners had chosen a shortage sector. This represents 7,681 people. Either one out of 30 Walloon job seekers, writes L’Echo in its Saturday edition.

This is the first time that data on the rate of integration into the labor market of job seekers trained in shortage occupations has been revealed, notes L’Echo.

It shows that just over half of those who took part in training for a shortage occupation had a job for at least six months in the following year. 77.7% worked at least one day in the year.

The sectors with the highest integration rates are transport and logistics (87.2%), trade (80%) and industry (79.9%). The lowest rate concerns IT and telecommunications (63.9%).

On the other hand, it is very clearly the people closest to employment (skilled, young and recently unemployed) who are doing the best. Low-skilled people, the elderly and the long-term unemployed remain very difficult to capture, notes L’Echo. Wallonia has 223,000 unemployed job seekers and 158 trades in need of manpower.
