Bordeaux is in the starting blocks

In September, the Matmut Atlantique stadium hosts five matches of the Rugby World Cup, while the Tour de France will stop in Bordeaux on July 7 and 8. In 2024, the destination will vibrate to the rhythm of the Olympic Games with at least six matches in the men’s and women’s football tournament.

When it comes to hosting major international sporting events, Bordeaux can’t be fooled. And proves it again this year. From this summer, on Friday July 7, the Gironde city will see the arrival of the 7th stage of the Tour de France. Located near Place des Quinconces, presented by the people of Bordeaux as the largest in France, the finish line should see the triumph of a sprinter as very often in Bordeaux. It should also be noted that the capital of New Aquitaine is only behind Paris in the ranking of loyalty to the Tour.

Five rugby matches in “the largest sports arena in the South West”

Far from its nickname of “Belle Endormie”, Bordeaux is intoxicated by large sporting gatherings. Rugby World Cup 2007 or Euro 2016 football, many remember these great moments of collective intoxication. The city is preparing to relive others. From September 9 to 30, the metropolitan territory will indeed beat at the rate of five group matches of the 10th Rugby World Cup organized in France. A total of ten high-level teams (Ireland – Romania, Saturday September 9 at 3.30 p.m.; Wales – Fiji, Sunday September 10 at 9 p.m.; Samoa – Chile, Saturday September 16 at 3 p.m.; South Africa – Romania, Sunday September 17 at 3 p.m.; Fiji – Georgia, Saturday September 30 at 5:45 p.m.) will compete on the lawn of the Stade de Bordeaux, “the largest sports arena in the greater South-West.

Bordeaux Métropole also invites the population to celebrate this Rugby World Cup on its territory. Many festivities for locals and visitors before and during the competition are already planned. Those who want to experience this event from the inside can also apply as volunteers. They have until March 17 to do so. Note that throughout the World Cup, a Rugby Village will be set up in Bordeaux. Similarly, supporters should be able to attend certain training sessions the Fiji national team who will stay in Lormont on the right bank of Bordeaux.

The Paris Games do not forget Bordeaux

The world capital of wine is also fully committed to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Designated “Host Community” of the Olympic football tournament, Bordeaux and the Matmut Atlantique will welcome, between July 24 and August 10, 2024, at least six matches of the women’s and men’s football tournament of the biggest sporting event in the world. Labeled “Land of Games 2024”, the city will provide athletes with a number of sports facilities (the Bordeaux-Lac velodrome for Olympic and Paralympic track cycling, the André-Labatut room for wheelchair fencing, the Guy-Laupies room for wheelchair fencing, the Bel Air stadium for field hockey, the Villa Primrose for tennis, the Chartrons skatepark) so that they can best prepare for their competition.

Trail, Nordic walking and gravel, ride on the right spots

Bordeaux Métropole offers 18 new trail, Nordic walking and gravel sports routes coupled with a dedicated application – On Piste developed by the Rossignol group – to guide participants in real time. Concretely, this mobile application accompanies practitioners simultaneously and communicates important information to them related to their progress on the courses: levels of difficulty, services, curiosities, temporary bans due to bad weather.

Three new cycling routes in the urban vineyard

Want to get on your bike to crisscross the urban vineyard and push the doors of a few castles? Departing from Blanquefort station, in the north of the metropolis, three routes of 9, 23 and 29 kilometers invite you to discover Château Dillon, Malleret, Paloumey, D’Agassac, Ségur, Saint Ahon and Tonnellerie Nadalié by pedalling.
