Boris Becker: “Maybe not shown enough remorse”

Tennis star Boris Becker was self-critical a few days following his release from prison. “Maybe I didn’t show enough remorse on the witness stand,” said Becker in a TV interview broadcast tonight by German TV station SAT.1.

His lawyers tried everything to “save his life”. The 55-year-old said he was advised what he had to say and what not. “It might have gone better – but it might also have gone a lot worse.”

At the end of April, Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by a court in London because he had not properly declared parts of his assets in his bankruptcy proceedings. He was released on Thursday following 231 days in prison.

Documentary premieres at Berlinale

A documentary regarding the tennis player will premiere at the upcoming Berlinale. This was announced by the press office of the film festival. Becker himself is expected as a guest at the Berlinale.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney accompanied Becker, who returned to Germany last week, for the documentary for a long time – until his conviction.
