The 104-year-old grandmother spent 102 years in the same house. She has now put up for sale the house where she has known all her joys and sorrows.

Nancy Joan Gifford was born at the end of World War I. Last Tuesday was the 104th birthday celebration of Grandma Nancy. It was on that day that Grandma Nancy took the decision to sell the house. The three-roomed house is a witness to many histories spanning over a century. World War I, World War II, Space Age, and now we have entered the digital age. Grandma Nancy’s house has been a witness to all the growth of the world all this time.

This house was built in 1882. Later in 1921, Nancy’s family bought the house for just £200 (Rs 20,190). They started living in that house when Nancy was two years old. The house, which was worth just Rs 20,000, is now valued at £1,69,950 (Rs 1,71,56,289). Grandma Nancy is dealing with many health problems that come with old age. Hence the need to move to St Benedict’s Nursing Home in Glastonbury. Nancy’s son John says that this is the only reason he decided to consider selling the house.

Grandma Nancy’s son shares the joy of being in this house for so many years and the sadness of leaving home. In the past, everyone near the house was very close to each other. Childhood was spent playing in the nearby field and swimming in the river. Even though there was no money then, everyone lived happily. Built in 1882, there was a public well adjacent to the house. John also remembers that everyone in that area used its water.
