The closer the season got, the more we wondered which team was going to take the bet Blake Griffin, if there is one. Finally, these are Celtics who give the former All-Star a chance, ESPN announcement.
At 33, the former Clippers, Pistons and Nets player has signed a one-year, fully guaranteed contract with the reigning NBA finalists. At the same time, it becomes Boston’s 11th guaranteed contract and it will notably fill the wounds of Robert Williams and Danilo Gallinari in the Celtic racket.
His best years behind him, Blake Griffin remains on a complicated season in Brooklyn, where he shot only 6.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists on average (43% on shots and 26% at 3-pts). Gradually removed from the New York rotation by Steve Nash, he will now try to relaunch his career in Massachusetts.
There, a replacement role probably awaits him, behind Jayson Tatum, Al Horford or Grant Williams on the 4/5 positions. Without forgetting Robert Williams, once recovered.
