Boston Celtics sign guard Nik Stauskas long-term after G-League furor

The Boston Celtics have signed shooting guard Nik Stauskas to a two-year deal after the 28-year-old has amassed 100 points in his past two G-League appearances.

That was opposed by Stauska’s agent ESPN confirmed. With first 57 points and then 43 points for the Grand Rapids Gold, the No. 8 pick of 2014 had recommended himself for another chance in the NBA.

Stauskas had climbed high on NBA scout lists in a Michigan Wolverines run into the 2014 NCAA Champions Game and was drafted by the Sacramento Kings, but only played there one season — a disappointing one, with just 4.4 points from 36 .5 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from the line of three.

He went on to play for the Sixers, Nets, Trail Blazers, Cavaliers, and this season two games for the Heat on a 10-day contract, giving him 337 total NBA games experience, most as a reserve. His shot quotas did not improve enough over the course of his career, he only hit 38.9 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from threes.

He is now under contract with the Celtics for the remainder of the current season and for the entire 2022/23 season. Boston is in great form after a poor start to the season and is fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 38-27 record and trending higher. The Celtics have injury problems at the shooting guard position after Jaylen Brown’s backup Aaron Nesmith also picked up an ankle injury.
