Seven agile automatons – Atlas and Spot types – mimed the choreography of the music video for Permission to Dance, BTS’ third English single, released this summer. The song was notably co-written by British pop star Ed Sheeran.

This is the second collaboration between the South Korean group and Boston Dynamics, a company specializing in robotics founded 30 years ago on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Last February, three Spot robots demonstrated their dancing skills on the set of the show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonwhile playing IONIQ: I’m On It. This song was produced by Hyundai to promote its hybrid engines.

In June 2021, the South Korean automaker completed the acquisition of Boston Dynamics, a transaction valued at just over US$1 billion.

Hyundai and BTS have been cooperating since 2018 to generate excitement for Busan, a metropolis in South Korea, to be the host city of the 2030 World Expo.
