Police believe the attack was targeted and linked to organised crime, sparking an ongoing manhunt for the gunman who fled in a silver Lexus sedan.

The shooting unfolded at approximately 5:50 pm on Rossmore Avenue as Louis Meehan walked alone through a busy car park.
The car park sits just one block behind the busy high street of The Boulevarde near the Punchbowl train station, sharing a road with St Jerome’s Catholic Primary School and St Jerome’s Catholic Church. Onlookers, including multiple school students, watched from the edge of the property as the attack occurred. NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene alongside police officers who performed urgent CPR, but Meehan could not be saved.
Johnstone told reporters that while the incident potentially endangered innocent members of the community, authorities did not believe other persons were at risk. Police established an expanded crime scene, blocking off the surrounding streets with marked and unmarked vehicles while detectives hunted for the silver sedan.
Underworld Connections and Family Legacy
Investigators confirmed that Meehan was known to police and tied him to Sydney’s broader gangland tensions. Online profiles showed the 32-year-old boxing coach posing in merchandise connected to the Alameddine crime gang, including clothing from Proper 60 and references to Ready 4 War, an operation linked to the network’s drug-trafficking activities.
Meehan came from a sporting family. He is the son of former Australian boxing great Kali Meehan and a professional boxing promoter. In 2013, he played for the Sydney Roosters’ National Youth Competition side alongside his brother Willis before transitioning into full-time boxing coaching. Alongside his brothers, he was a senior coach on the family-run Meehan Boxing Team, training notable athletes including NRL player Curtis Scott and fighter Jai Opetaia.
Following the shooting, younger brother Isaac Meehan shared an online tribute on Instagram the following morning, while detectives continued gathering mobile phone and dashcam footage from witnesses.
