Bpost Introduces Digital Delivery Notices: A More Sustainable Solution for E-commerce Logistics

This Tuesday, bpost indicated in a press release that the paper delivery notice will soon be a thing of the past. Until now, when you were not there and the postman had to deliver a package, he left you a notice in the mailbox. From now on, they will receive a delivery notice in their mailbox and on their My bpost application. In this way, communication linked to the delivery of a package will be done digitally from end to end. This initiative is part of bpost’s commitment to offering sustainable solutions in the field of e-commerce logistics.

A more sustainable post

Jos Donvil, CEO of bpost Belgium, explains: “Digitalization here also allows a more than obvious gain in terms of sustainability. The mass of paper used for notices of passage is thus replaced by electronic notification. The message remains the same, only the media changes. The email address of customers who order online is already known in any case and they are already informed of the status of their order by email or via the app . Sending the notice to their mailbox is simply a logical next step. »

The paper version does not disappear completely. When bpost does not have a customer’s email address, a paper delivery notice will still be left in the mailbox. This is particularly the case if an individual sends a package to another individual, without their email address being detailed.

When should we expect the deployment of digital notices?

“From September, the digital passage notice will be in use throughout Belgium. Every month, new regions will move to the new system. Before each start, a careful preparation of one month is planned, during which customers will be informed of this new approach. In addition, postmen receive the necessary training to become fully familiar with the new process,” the press release specifies.
