Those who thought the Bruins would wait at least one season before appointing Patrice Bergeron’s successor as captain were royally wrong.
This morning, the Bruins made Brad Marchand the 27th captain in their history. He succeeds Zdeno Chara, who wore the C from 2006 to 2020, and Bergeron, who then replaced him.
Marchand has been with the Bruins organization since they drafted him in the third round in 2006. He played his first full NHL season in 2010-11, helping the Bruins win the Cup that year. Stanley, against Vancouver.
Marchand became assistant captain in 2018-2019. In 947 games in the NHL, he totaled 852 points, including 372 goals.
