The race for implants is intensifying. Synchron, a competitor to Elon Musk’s brain chip startup Neuralink, is preparing to recruit patients for a large-scale clinical trial needed for commercial approval of its implant, the group’s chief executive said to Reuters.

The company, which counts Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos among its investors, launched an online registry this week to recruit a few dozen necessary patients, while around 120 clinical trial centers have offered their assistance, said the director General, Thomas Oxley, in an interview.
