Brandon Gignac Joins Laval Rocket: Boosting Playoff Hopes and Leading Scorer

2024-02-23 19:03:00

26-year-old forward Brandon Gignac was not claimed on waivers and was transferred to the Laval Rocket by the Montreal Canadiens on Friday followingnoon.

He should be in uniform in the evening to face the Toronto Marlies, in the first of two clashes in 24 hours. His name was placed on waivers on Thursday.

Gignac will therefore be able to give a boost to Laval, which is at the heart of the race for the playoffs in the American League. Jean-François Houle’s men occupy sixth place in the North division with a record of 22-20-7 this season.

The Rocket are one point behind the Marlies, two behind the Belleville Senators and three behind the Rochester Americans in their division.

Before signing a two-way contract with the Habs earlier in February, Gignac was having an excellent season with the Rocket, as evidenced by his tally of 14 goals and 28 assists in 43 games. He is still the team’s leading scorer this season.

In seven NHL games with the Canadiens, Gignac scored the first goal of his career.

Thursday, CH also claimed attacker Colin White on waivers.
