Experts from all over Brazil discussed the latest advances at the Brasil 6G Workshop
On February 6th, the 2nd Brazil 6G Workshop was held on the Inatel campus, which brought together experts from various regions of the country to present and share the most recent research on the sixth generation of mobile communications. During the event’s ten technical sessions, researchers discussed innovations in technology, which is already being called the Internet of Senses.
The workshop was promoted by the Brazil 6G Project, led by Inatel with support from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the National Education and Research Network (RNP).
The second edition of the Brasil 6G Workshop delivered the first results of the project
The initiative is part of the Project’s counterparts, which aims to define the standards of future networks. Inatel Professor, Luciano Leonel Mendes, emphasized the relevance of the date for Brazil 6G, as it marked the delivery of the first stage of the Project. The professor reaffirmed the importance of the country anticipating technological research to keep up with the world’s largest players and establish requirements that meet specific national needs.
Among the numerous research topics presented there were also Artificial Intelligence for 6G, Super Convergence in 6G, Immersive Applications and Smart Surfaces. The research results consolidate the initial expectations of Brazil 6G, of progress beyond telecommunications itself, towards a massive connection between technologies and the long-awaited interaction between the physical, virtual and biological worlds. The future network already foresees ubiquitous connectivity, that is, omnipresent, from anywhere, on any device or medium, which expands and can be disseminated.
The Event demonstrated the latest research on the sixth generation of mobile communications, the event pointed out the steps for the next stage of studies.
The former student of Inatel, Roberto Bomfin, currently a postdoctoral researcher at New York University in Abu Dhabi, defended his sensor studies for integration with 6G, as there will be applications for the most diverse sectors, such as autonomous cars, smart homes, medicine, industry and even home care, such as residential care for elderly people. “Sensing can detect everything from vital signs, to whether the person has fallen at home, in addition to capturing any signal around a car, such as children and bicycles for autonomous cars” highlights the former student.
Wireless power transmission
Researcher Ana Beatriz Mattos, Digital Signal Processing Engineer at WIHEX, spoke about the Fusion of Multiple Radars for Secure Energy Transfer Systems. According to the speaker, with the arrival of 6G there will be difficulties in powering equipment via wired means, this is the object of her study: ensuring safety when charging devices with Wireless Energy Transfer, a technology that develops wireless energy transfer.
In his technical session, Prof. Antônio Marcos Alberti, Coordinator of ICT Lab Inatel, explained about softwarization and confirmed that in the 6G network everything can be virtualized, to unite the physical and digital worlds. Furthermore, everything that cannot be virtualized, such as a drone or a radar, which physically operates on a device, will be represented by its digital twins to function in software in a virtual way.
According to the teacher. Aldebaro Klautau, from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the research carried out so far in Brazil 6G already determines much greater progress than that achieved with the fifth generation. “In my view, the Brazil 6G Project is very well positioned, as a game changer, in all these new situations that differentiate 5G and 6G.” The professor highlighted the results on Artificial Intelligence for 6G, Co-Simulations for Digital Twins.
“The Brazil 6G project is strategic both in terms of impacts for the country and the world. We have many challenges in the Project, but we have all the necessary capabilities to overcome them,” assures Kleber Vieira Cardoso, Associate Professor at the Institute of Informatics – Federal University of Goiás (UFG), who investigates immersive applications and their integration with post-processing systems. 5G.

At the end of the Workshop plenary, Prof. Luciano Leonel thanked the presence and recognized the importance of all universities and institutions participating in the Brazil 6G Project. “After all the presentations, we proved that the challenges that lie ahead go far beyond transmitting data and the advances achieved will generate material so that we can soon have new editions of the Workshop” boasts the event mediator and coordinator of the Brazil 6G Project .
