The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, traveled to the United States to be present at the Summit of the Americas that took place in California. Later, he went to Orlando, Florida, this Saturday, and from there he inaugurated a vice consulate. As usual in Brazil, a motorcycle caravan supported the president. However, on this occasion a multitude of migrants came with them to the event who supported and greeted the head of state.

A few months before the presidential elections, in which Bolsonaro intends to win re-election, a multitude of Brazilians in the United States showed their support for him. These massive displays of affection also offer a reading for those who watch carefully how citizens react to the leader, ahead of the October elections.

Although figures from the Hollywood elite such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo tried to discredit Bolsonaro, he has shown popular support. The streets dismantle the accusations of being anti-democratic. As a leader, he didn’t just greet his supporters, he got on a motorcycle and led the caravan. They patrolled the streets of Orlando with a message of unity.

“We love our country and have a deep respect for the United States, a welcoming country of opportunity. More and more we want to interact for the best of our people. [Fue] a remarkable step for the United States with a rapprochement with the current president, which I am sure will bring good results for all of us”, he said before the crowd of supporters.

Supporters dressed the streets in the colors of the Brazilian flag: blue, green and yellow. They are the same ones that the president chose during his first presidential campaign, as a sign of patriotism. Now those colors were present at the president’s meeting with his countrymen on US soil, where around 1 million Brazilians live, of which 475,000 are in Florida. So they would add considerable votes in their favor.

With Lula, Brazil was the center of operations of the regional left

This speech made by the current president of Brazil marks a contrast with his main rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who led the Sao Paulo Forum at the time. Likewise, it surpasses the anti-American story exalted by the most radical left established in the country.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Brazil became the center of operations of the left and financier of Cuba, then of Venezuela. With the arrival of Bolsonaro to power, that complicity financed with taxpayer money ended.

As a satire, a Brazilian highlighted how Bolsonaro has more support in Orlando than Lula in Pernambuco Brazil. While the Brazilian president summons crowds in favor of her, Lula transits with custody and her supporters do not take to the streets in numbers.

Also, during a trip to the Middle East, the South American head of state also took a motorcycle ride in Doha, the capital of Qatar. In the same way, since May 2021, he has walked the streets of Brazil with thousands of supporters to show the support he has. Now also abroad. “Our flag will never be red,” shouted the crowd in Orlando, alluding to the communism they reject.

Among the participants was the journalist Allan dos Santos, who had to go into exile due to the ideological persecution that exists on the part of the Federal Supreme Court. It is that the equivalent of the Supreme Court of Brazil is composed mostly of functional judges on the left. Given the persecutory history of the court, it is known by the ruling party as the “toga dictatorship”.
