Cork City Council has granted permission for a new Oakberry smoothie and acai bowl cafe to open on Oliver Plunkett Street. The popular brand, known for its vibrant smoothies and healthy acai bowls, will occupy the former Body shop premises at 82-83 Oliver Plunkett Street.
The progress will feature both indoor seating and updated storefront signage.Oakberry, founded in Brazil in 2016, has rapidly expanded to over 600 stores globally. The Irish franchise was acquired by entrepreneurs Nick Twomey,Cian O’Donoghue,and Ben Mulligan,who opened their first Dublin store in 2023.

We are thrilled to announce that Oakberry’s expansion into Cork is finally here! The popular smoothie and acai bowl chain is set to open its first Cork store at 82-83 Oliver Plunkett Street. Archyde had the possibility to sit down with Oakberry co-founder and Irish franchisee Nick Twomey to discuss this exciting development and the brand’s commitment to Cork.
archyde: Nick, congratulations on bringing Oakberry to Cork. can you tell us a bit about the brand’s global journey and your role in bringing it to Ireland?
Nick Twomey: Thank you.Oakberry was founded in Brazil in 2016 with a mission to offer vibrant, refreshing, and healthy smoothies and acai bowls. I, along with Cian O’Donoghue and Ben Mulligan, saw the potential in the Irish market and acquired the Irish franchise rights in 2023. We opened our first store in Dublin and have been expanding ever since.
Archyde: Why did you choose Oliver Plunkett Street for Oakberry’s Cork debut?
Nick Twomey: oliver Plunkett Street is a bustling location with a great mix of residents, workers, and visitors.We’re excited to join the vibrant food scene and add a healthy option to the mix. Plus, the prime location with the former Body Shop premises was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

Nick Twomey: We want the cafe to reflect the bright,inviting,and energetic spirit of Oakberry. The design will be modern and clean, with a focus on sustainability. Customers can expect a welcoming space where they can enjoy their smoothies and acai bowls in a comfortable atmosphere.
